MixColorsforUVResin
How to mix colors for UV resin used in SLA printers to create original colors.
I couldn’t find the method online, so here it is!
❄ What You’ll Need
- Light-blocking bottle (or an empty resin bottle)
- Coloring resin or resin dye
- Digital scale
- Paper cups (small ones around 100ml)
- Resin mold (silicone mold)
- UV light
- (Convenient to have) Resin stick/spatula
- Wet wipes
- Gloves (rubber gloves with a fleece lining if possible)
❄ How to Mix Resin
Preparing the Resin
I personally use ”UM405” Bloody Red/Pastel Blue/Pastel Yellow/White/Black. If 1kg is too much, SK Honpo sells 500g of resin.

Making Resin in a Paper Cup
Put on gloves and ventilate the area while making the resin.
When working, place tools on a spatula so that resin doesn’t splatter everywhere.
Always clean up resin spills with wet wipes while working.
Use a kitchen scale or a scale suitable for small amounts to measure the resin as you add it.
Start with about 10-20g.
When you want to mix colors, either lightly rotate the paper cup (like mixing model paint) or use a silicone stick for resin.
If the color is too strong and difficult to mix in small amounts, prepare a lighter color in the bottle in advance (e.g., red to pink).
Keep notes of the amount of resin used while mixing colors.
Making Chips with a Silicone Mold
Buy a silicone mold or resin mold. Any shape is fine, but flat and small ones are recommended.
Pour the made resin into the silicone mold and cure it with UV light.
It’s easier to transfer the resin into the mold with a stick.
Once the color chips are made, check them in a bright place and repeat the color mixing until you are satisfied.
Make the Final Amount You Want Based on the Recipe
Place a light-blocking bottle on the scale and add the resin based on the recipe.
Since strong-colored resin can be significantly affected by a difference of 1g, transfer it to a paper cup first, and then carefully add it to avoid pouring too much at once.
Since resin tends to settle, mix it well by sealing the bottle tightly. When shaking the bottle, resin may leak, so wrap the mouth with wet wipes before shaking.
Finally, check in a silicone mold to make sure the color mixing is correct.
If there are no problems, you’re done.
❄ How to Mix Resin with Resin Dye
Prepare colorant for resin.
Easily available are colorants for craft resin, such as Gem Shizuku. Also, “UM405” seems to sell colorant for resin.
The procedure is almost the same, and the coloring is done by counting how many drops you put in.
The advantage of this method is that you can easily experiment with color mixing. It would be awkward to buy 1 kg of resin that you will not use much for color mixing…!
On the other hand, there are some problems, such as the difficulty of making enough resin for 1 kg of color resin, and the difficulty of calculating the proportions when mixing colors.
Personally, I recommend the method of mixing resins together.
